Most technical construction projects nowadays are set up on a cross-departmental scale. In the sectors Oil & Gas, Petro-Chemicals and Refinery, the discipline project controls accompany all phases of a project, from cost estimate to completion. As a key part of construction management, project controls includes all processes and tools used to manage the costs and schedule of a project. Moreover, it is in charge of the careful assessment of risks that could affect the outcome of the project.
The purpose of the project control process is to ensure that design requirements, budget and schedule are met by the project team. The plan includes control points throughout the project cycle. As the project progresses, actual work is compared to the original plan. Action can then be taken based on this comparison.
