Control and Instrumentation engineering (C&I) is in charge of both industrial process measurement and control on the level of design, operations and control. Specialists in the field ensure smooth operation within the plants of the chemical and petrochemical industry. The instrumentation engineer is familiar with applications of the most diverse measuring systems and processes, as well as in the fields of explosion protection (ATEX), functional safety (SIF), safety integrity level (SIL), fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. He or she is responsible for the design and selection of field devices, automated valves and the hardware of a process control system (DCS). In doing so, he or she primarily uses tools such as Conval, SmartPlant Instrumentation and Comos. Work is based on the ANSI 5.1, DIN and ISO standards.
At the same time, the C&I engineer is a competent contact person at the interfaces with process engineering, piping and electrical engineering and particularly with the automation engineer who deals with DCS and PLC programming.
