The steering and control of documents within a project is a central task within construction management. As a technical discipline, Technical Document Management is responsible for documentation throughout the entire course of a construction project. Under the direction of the site manager, the Document Controller works in close cooperation with Quality Management QA/QC and Occupational Safety HSE in particular.
Documentation in construction projects in Oil & Gas and Petro-Chemistry
Document management is implemented in our projects as an interdisciplinary task. The Document Controller thus takes on a central role in the project team on site. He or she manages the correspondence filing of all team disciplines, especially HSE and QC, and checks and distributes revised documents both internally to the project team and externally, in handover documentation to the contractors.
The documentation is first checked for conformity. For this purpose, internal audits are carried out, among other things. Examples are pipeline documentation according to the Pressure Equipment Directive or the assembly documentation. Process improvement in documentation creation is another focal point. In addition, the Document Controller (also known as Site Secretary) supports the monthly progress reports, creates editions specifically tailored to individual team members and sets the daily, weekly and monthly meeting schedule.
